Forklifts & material handling

What spare parts should I order together with a forklift?

The answer

Order the items that stop the machine, not the items that are cheapest to add. Mast chains and rollers, hydraulic seals, brake components and the tyres are the usual first set. The wear-parts list should come from the supplier at quotation stage, so you know which parts are standard and which are proprietary.

The logic is simple: a spare part earns its place by how quickly its absence stops work, not by how little it costs.

Mast chains and rollers, hydraulic hoses and seals, brake components and tyres are the recurring items on a counterbalance truck. On the packaging side, the equivalents are seal bars, PTFE tape, drive belts and the sealing jaw components. These are the parts that halt a line or a truck.

Two things make this practical rather than theoretical. First, ask for the wear-parts list at quotation stage, so the spares can be included in the same shipment as the machine. Second, ask whether each part is standard or proprietary — a proprietary part means an international order every time it fails, which changes how you plan. A parts list and an exploded diagram are what let a local workshop work on the machine at all.
