Forklifts & material handlingWhy do electric forklift quotes vary so much between suppliers?
A quote difference is usually a specification difference, not a pricing difference. Battery chemistry and capacity, mast stages and lift height, motor and controller, tyre type, and whether the charger and packing are included all change the real cost. Quotes become comparable only when every route is priced on one identical configuration.
In more detail
The phrase "2 ton electric forklift" describes a capacity, not a machine. Two trucks that both lift two tonnes can differ in battery chemistry, battery capacity, the number of mast stages, whether they have full free lift, the drive motor and controller, tyre compound, and whether the charger is included or optional. Any one of those changes what is actually being bought.
The most common cause of a misleading comparison is not a dishonest quote — it is two honest quotes describing different machines. One supplier quotes a bare truck, another includes the charger, a third quotes a deposit or an accessory. The numbers look comparable because they are all called "2 ton electric forklift".
The practical fix is to write the specification down before asking for prices, then require every route to quote against that same sheet: same capacity, same lift height, same battery type and capacity, same charger, same attachments, same packing. When the quotes come back aligned, the remaining differences are real differences — and those are the ones worth discussing.
Confirm before acting
- Write the specification down before requesting prices
- Require every quote on the same capacity, lift height, battery and charger
- Confirm whether packing and attachments are included
- Ask which items are optional rather than standard
- Compare the specification sheets, not the headline numbers
