2 Ton Electric Forklift
The workhorse capacity: standard palletised goods, two-shift warehousing and most indoor industrial work.
A 2 ton electric forklift covers standard palletised goods, two-shift warehousing and most indoor industrial work, which is why it is the most requested configuration. It is also the capacity where the lead-acid versus lithium decision has the largest lifetime cost impact, so the battery strategy deserves as much attention as the truck.
What is different at this capacity
| Footprint | Standard counterbalance size; fits most warehouse aisles |
| Battery | 48 V or 60 V class; the chemistry decision matters most here |
| Typical duty | One or two shifts, mixed indoor work |
| Mast | Two-stage standard; three-stage with free lift for container or low-opening work |
| Attachments | Wide support — side-shift, positioner, clamps |
Choose this capacity when
- Loads are standard pallets, typically under about 1.6 tonnes at 500 mm load centre
- Aisle width allows a counterbalance truck to turn
- Work is indoor and may run two shifts
- The lead-acid versus lithium decision has real lifetime cost impact
Common misjudgements
Choosing on the purchase price without working out the charging strategy for two shifts
Assuming a 2-ton rating holds at a 6 m lift height
Buying on pack width or capacity without confirming the battery and charger are included

Common questions
Why is there such a price spread on 2 ton electric forklifts?
Because "2 ton electric forklift" describes a capacity, not a machine. Battery chemistry and capacity, mast sections and lift height, motor and controller, tyre type, attachment class and whether the charger is included all change the real cost. Quoting every route on one identical configuration is the only way the numbers become comparable.
Is 2 tons the most common size?
For indoor palletised goods, yes — it is the configuration we are asked for most often. It is also the size where buyers most often get the battery decision wrong, because two-shift duty makes lead-acid awkward without a spare battery set.
What lift height should I specify?
State the highest beam or shelf you actually need to reach, plus the lowest opening the truck must pass under. Those two figures determine the mast stage count and whether free lift is required. Specifying lift height without the opening height is how buyers end up with a truck that fits the racking but not the door.
